

Verna Dean Ramin Mathena, went to be with the Lord on January 24, 2017. Verna Dean was born on August 23, 1935 in Baytown, Texas. She graduated from Baytown Lee High School, where she was a very involved and proud member of the Lee Brigadiers. She lived in Texas City, Houston, Pasadena, and Burnet, Texas. She also spent eight years in Almont, Colorado and most recently nine years in Ruidoso, New Mexico as she absolutely loved the mountains and cool climate. Verna Dean was the eldest daughter of Odean George Ramin and Laverne Dent Ramin Willis. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers Bobby George Ramin and Tommy Claude Ramin. Verna Dean’s father died when she was young and her mother married Kenneth Wayne Willis, whom she adored, and blessed Verna with two bonus sisters – Jeneva Lee Willis and Betty Jo Willis, who both survive her. She is also survived by her husband, Eugene Mathena, her son Billy McAlister, daughter Deana McAlister Day, son Kenneth Mathena, as well as her step children Diane Mathena and Eugene Mathena, Jr. and her grandchildren Christopher Day, Patrick Day, Felicia Mathena and Jeremy Mathena, all of whom will miss her dearly. In addition to family, Verna Dean enjoyed reading, cooking, piano, the outdoors, Houston sports teams and gaming at one of her favorite casinos! A memorial service will be held to celebrate the life of Verna Dean on February 11, 2017, 11:00 am in the Chapel of Angels at Forest Park Lawndale cemetery, 6900 Lawndale, Houston, Texas.
