Wendell T. Akers passed away on January 2, 2011. He was born on October 26, 1926 in O’Donnell, Texas to Theodore Thaddeus Akers and Mittie Pelts Akers. He married June Elliott Akers on June 12, 1948 in Clovis, New Mexico. They moved to Buchanan Dam in 1987.
He is survived by his wife June Akers, his son Daryl Akers and wife Anita Akers, son Jake Akers, daughters Starla Peiper and husband Benny Peiper and Cindy Nagle and husband Mike Nagle, grandchildren Kim Akers, Stacie Willard and husband Jon Willard, Amanda Wright, and husband Clint Wright, Tyler Slocum, Tiffany Slocum, Kaylee Nagle, great grandchildren Ashlyn, Megan, Brooke, Tyler, Haley, Cody, Zachary, Casey, Makayla and Shyla and beloved dog and companion Maggy Su. He was preceded in death by his two sisters, Aurora Moss and Thaddeus Simpkins and two brothers, Cornelius Akers and Dwight Akers with one surviving brother Carlyle Akers of Zenia, Ohio. He was known to his family and close friends as Papa. He was self employed most of his life after serving time in the U.S. Navy. He will be missed but kept in the hearts of all who loved him.
Pallbearers will be Rick and Darren Richards, John Willard, Clint Wright, Mike Nagle and Johnny Reyna.
Visitation will be on Tuesday 6-8 p.m. at the Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at the Clements-Wilcox Chapel. Interment will follow at the Lakeland Hills Memorial Park.
