William "Bill" Norred

April 3, 1930April 1, 2021

William Edward “Bill” Norred Sr., 90, of Burnet, TX passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 1, 2021 at Oaks Nursing Center in Burnet. Bill was born April 3, 1930 in Austin, Texas to Virgil Larue Norred and Margret Missouri Wilkinson Norred. He married the love of his life Josephine Ann Simek, the 24th day of September 1950. Bill and Josie shared 67 wonderful years together through many of life’s milestones, all the while being supportive of each other’s hopes and dreams. He was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, a very hard worker and good provider for his family. In his younger years he worked with his dad drilling and building water wells. Some years later he owned and operated a heavy equipment excavation & construction business.

In his spare time over the years he enjoyed deer hunting with the boys, camping trips with the family and fishing. Bill always found humor in being a prankster and joking around with his friends and family. After retirement he enjoyed wood working, building birdhouses and gardening. Although he was a meat and potatoes kind of guy he would grow lots of vegetables, but would not eat them himself.

During his time at the nursing home he really loved visits with his family (sneaking in sweets) and friends. He also enjoyed lounging around all day watching old westerns & wild life shows. We’d all laugh when we came to visit because you could hear his TV all the way down the hall. He had hearing aids but didn’t always wear them.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Ted and Margie Norred; his wife Josephine Ann Simek Norred, a brother Larry Wayne Norred; two sisters Jo Ann Roberts and Betty Lou Yancy.

Survivors include 1 sister, Gaynell Arthur; two daughters, Deborah (Rudy) Fincke and Carolyn Schafer; two sons, Ted (Sherrie) Norred and Billy (Becky) Norred, Jr.; 18 Grandchildren: Allen Petty, Melissa Meurer, Tonya Ng, Kimberly Fincke, Shannon DelBello, Shanell Parker, Staci Villegas, Kelly Roberts, Ian Schafer, Joseph Norred, T.J. Norred, Jeffery Norred, Christopher Norred, Sam Williams, Carolyn Crawford, Charity Allen, Crystal Corbell and Jonathan Norred; 33 great grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces & nephews.

Visitation will be held on Thursday April 8, 2021 from 5:00 pm to 7 pm at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home In Burnet. Funeral Service will be Friday April 9, 2021 at Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church in Burnet. Interment to follow at Post Mountain Cemetery.

Summertime with Grandpa and Grandma was the best. He loved to ask us if we were goat ropers or full of hot air. When Grandpa had gravel deliveries to make, we would load up in the cab of that old Mack dump truck and ride with him. He made sure we stopped at Miller's for giant doughnuts and chocolate milk on the way. After lunch, we would spend the afternoons watching I Dream of Jeannie before getting ice cream from Tasty Treat, or Cherry Coke floats near the old train depot.

Bill and Josie were so much fun to visit. We would make a trip to Burnet at least once a year to visit. Josie and Bennie were first cousins. Bill was always happy and such a jokester. Our girls loved going to Burnet to visit - not only Bill and Josie but their grandkids-Ian, Charity and Crystal would come over and they always had a lot of fun. We always brought something to eat but the favorite always seemed to be the homemade pickles. When we visited in the nursing home both Josie and Bill- we would bring up the fun times we had on our visits with them and even before when Uncle Joe and Aunt Martha lived there in the RV. We have been wanting to visit again but with COVID, it put that on pause.
Our condolences - Bill will be missed by a lot of people!! Prayers!

I’m gonna miss you letting me sneak bites of your meals on wheels, I’m gonna miss you always having a laugh with me, and I’m gonna miss you pointing your finger gun at me telling me I was full of prunes, or full of hot air. I’m gonna miss giving u kisses on the cheek before leaving, and seeing that sweet gummy smile of yours.. I’m gonna miss brining you strawberry milkshakes watching u make a mess of it while u smiled and ate the whole thing! I’m gonna miss brining your sweet things like peanut butter cups! I’m gonna miss you so so much! I wish I would’ve gone to see you yesterday. I thought we had more time... but now u may not know Ezra your great great grandson in the flesh but you get to know him in spirit! watch over him from beautiful heaven with grandma. you and grandma get to be his guardian angels now..I love you with my whole heart and more... I miss you so much. Until we meet again grandpa.
