

Robert “Bob” Boster was born in McCloud, CA, October 13, 1939 to Monty and June Boster. He was raised in Fall River Mills, living behind the garage Monte built on the northeast side of the bridge entering town. The family moved to Hidden Valley Ranch in the Cassel area (behind Packway Materials) in 1956. He attended Fall River Schools, graduating as his class Valedictorian in 1957.
Bob attended Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo graduated in 1961 with a bachelor’s degree in animal science, a Vocational Education teaching credential, and a master’s degree in education. He married Adele Woods in 1961, Fortuna, CA, and took his first ag teaching job in Tulelake. After teaching for seven years in Tulelake and then eleven in Santa Maria, he moved with Adele and sons, Jim, Tom and Mike back to Cassel to go into the nursery business started by Monty and June in 1959. He helped expand the nursery by adding landscaping and landscape maintenance service – creating Boster’s Nursery and Landscaping Company.
Bob was a life-long member of the Church of Christ. He was a deacon at the Santa Maria congregation, and lay minister for the Burney congregation and long time song leader. He loved singing and was known as an excellent tenor. He sang with several community choirs and especially loved the Hallelujah Chorus.
Vocation agriculture/education and community service were his passions. An active FFA member when young, he was president of the McArthur FFA chapter and went on to be the first State FFA President from the area. During his ag teaching career, he was a regional board member of the California Ag Teachers Association. Most recently he served on the Agriculture Advisory Committees for Fall River HS and Shasta College and was a steady voice for the continued need for vocational education in our schools.
In Santa Maria, Bob was a member of the Kiwanis Club and was chapter president in 1974. He joined the Cassel Vol. Fire Company in 1982, served as a firefighter for ten years, and on the board, and board president for four years. He was a member of the Rotary Club of Burney serving as club president in 1989. He was a board member of the Burney-Fall River Education Foundation. He was a Master Gardener and in 2008, he and Adele were awarded the Golden Trowel Award by the Shasta College and UC Master Gardener program for their long time support. He was also a member of the Friends of the Intermountain Libraries and a founding member of the Intermountain Contractors Association
Flying was one of his other passions. He received his license for flying small planes while at Tulelake and loved every opportunity he had to fly family, friends and students to all parts of California.
Bob is survived by wife Adele, sons Jim (and Anne) of Portland, Or., Tom (and Suzan) of Oakdale, Ca., Mike (and Toni) of Turlock, Ca., brother Art Boster of Norco, Ca., and sisters Joyce (Dennis) Mooney of Lakeview, Or., and Betty Boster of Los Osos, Ca. Six grandchildren, Lauren, Savannah, Paige, Robert, Carolyn and Lillian, and many nieces and nephews
