Al was the eldest of Dee and Gert’s children. After graduating from South Christian High School and Davenport College, Al began working as a bookkeeper, but he spent the majority of his career working at Steelcase where he held several positions. He and Donna moved the family to Byron Center where they built a home and raised their three children. Al enjoyed working outdoors, checking out old cars, doing crossword puzzles, and puttering in his workshop. In retirement Al enjoyed crafting one-of-a-kind decorations and repairing furniture. Al was known for saving everything and always had an odd fastener or tool for any job.
