Alvin "Al" Van Tuinen

Alvin Dale Van Tuinen, age 94, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Friday, January 13, 2023, while surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Dee Van Tuinen; granddaughter, Valerie; great-grandson, Zander Roede; parents Peter and Alice Van Tuinen; and by nine of his siblings. He is survived by his children Bernie (Donna) Van Tuinen, Donna (Jim) Swanson; grandchildren Troy (Tammy) Van Tuinen, Travis (Julie) Van Tuinen, Jeff (Tammy) Swanson, Jennifer (Jeff) Roede; great-grandchildren Autumn, Lily, Brandon, Joey, Colton, Connor, Caden, Hannah, Ethan, Harper; brother, Douglas (Judy) Van Tuinen; many nieces, nephews, extended family, and his friends at the Dorr Moose Lodge.

Al had many hobbies, those of which included golfing, playing cards and cribbage, and especially spending time with his family. He retired from a 42 year career as a truck driver where he was also a proud Teamster member. He was an avid attender of his grandchildren’s sporting events; he rarely missed an event. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy. Al will be missed by all.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, January 19, 2023 at Cook Funeral Home (Byron Center chapel), 2067 84th St. SW, Byron Center, MI 49315. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, January 20, 2023 at Rush Creek Bible Church, 2334 76th St. SW, Byron Center, MI 49315 with visitation from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the service.
