Angela Zainea Salinas, a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, and professional, went to the welcoming arms of her Heavenly Father September 22, 2024, after a brave four year battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family in her final moments, leaving behind a legacy of strength, faith, and compassion.
Angela, age 43, was a devout member of Saint Sebastian Catholic Church in Byron Center, MI. Her deep beliefs were a guiding light throughout her life, providing strength and comfort, especially during her illness.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Erasmo (Mo) Salinas; two beloved daughters Aurora and Alexa; parents Theresa and Leo Zainea; and brother, Jonathan Zainea (wife, Lacy and children Allison and Gabriel). Angela’s family was the center of her world, and she cherished her role as a wife and mother above all. She will be missed by beloved aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and countless cousins, co-workers, and friends.
Angela’s dedication to excellence began early. She graduated with honors from Jackson Lumen Christi High School in 1999 and continued her academic success at Western Michigan University, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Organizational Communication and Spanish in 2003. Her passion for education and learning led her to Grand Valley State University for a Master’s in Education in 2011, also with honors.
Professionally, Angela was deeply committed to her career at Grand Rapids Community College, where she served as employee events, engagement and onboarding coordinator. Known for her talent, creativity, and boundless energy, she was truly a renaissance woman. Angela’s colleagues admired her dedication, and she considered them a second family. Her contributions to GRCC will be remembered and missed by all who worked with her.
Visitation will be from 4:30-7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, 2024 at Cook Funeral Home, 2067 84th St. SW, Byron Center, with a prayer service from 4-4:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Shields of Hope (shieldsofhope.org), or the Grand Rapids Community College General Scholarship Fund (grcc.edu/employers-community/grcc-foundation), two causes close to Angela’s heart.
