Mrs. Betty J. Austhof, age 88, of Byron Center, went to be with her Lord on August 7, 2026. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Everett Austhof; son-in-law, John DeHaan III; and family members Ivan and Karen Lameyer, Claire Lameyer, Robert Groendyk, Ronald Hoeksema, Keith Mingerink, Terry Nyenhuis, Edward and Gertrude Austhof, Ernest Austhof, Earl and Crystal Austhof; and several loved nieces and nephews.
Betty will be lovingly remembered by her daughters Diane (Paul) Travis of Byron Center, Beverly (Jim) Brown of Fort Myers, Lori (Tom) Peck of Stanwood, and Jody (Dan) Tenckinck of West Olive; eight grandchildren Dawn, Brenda, Tena, Erica, Nick, Neil, Bryce, Alex; six great-grandchildren; sisters Theressa Nyenhuis, Hermina Hoeksema, Bonnie Mingerink, Lavonne (Jan) Koens; sisters-in-law Marcia Lameyer and Gladys Austhof; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Betty was a loving and faith-filled wife, mother, and grandmother. Throughout the years of raising her family, Betty enjoyed their annual “Girls Day” outings, Up North adventures, and watching grandchildren’s sporting events, as well as many school and church programs. Each daughter will forever hold endless memories of just how loving, supportive, and caring their mother was.
Betty loved her sibling gatherings and spending hours playing cards, dice, and laughing together. Church was also “family,” as she enjoyed years of Bible study, supporting youth programs and being one of the strongest prayer warriors a friend could ever hope for.
The word “family” perfectly describes Mom’s legacy, and she will be so very missed.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 11, 2026, with visitation beginning at 10 a.m., at Woodhaven Reformed Church, 3959 68th St. SW, Byron Center, Michigan 49315. In lieu of flowers and in honor of Betty, contributions may be made to the Woodhaven Reformed Church Building Fund.
