Calvin Jay DeGood, age 67, went to be with his Lord Saturday, November 15, 2025. Cal was preceded in death by his father, Russell DeGood; mother, Nelvina Forward; and stepfather, Thomas Forward. He will be remembered by Patty DeGood; children Brian (Myssi) DeGood and Scott DeGood; grandchildren Kaylin, Riley, Nathan, Nikolas, Brayden, and Kara. He will also be remembered by his sister, Joni (Dave) Goudzwaard; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Cal graduated from Grandville High School with the class of 1976. He married Patty Hofstra and they shared 43 years together. He started his career as an apprentice in tool and die and worked his way up to an owner in 1992 when he purchased what is now known as Eclipse Tool and Die. Cal’s hard work showed in his success; taking it from a small eight-man shop to its current status with 30 employees. In 2023, he was proud to transfer operations and ownership to his two sons Brian and Scott, who wish to continue his legacy into the future. He will be remembered for his willingness to help those around him; whether you were family, friend, employee, or stranger, he sought to help others out in their times of need and on a daily basis.
Visitation with friends and relatives will be held from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, November 26, 2025 at Cook Funeral Home, 2067 84th Street, Byron Center, MI 49315. In honor of Cal and in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Samaritan’s Purse. The family welcomes memories and messages at www.cookcaresbyron.com in their guestbook online.
