Three weeks ago, our mother, Caroline, suffered a severe stroke and on Monday, October 11, 2021, God called her home to Heaven. She was reunited with her husband of 63 years, Henry; their son, Gary; and Mom's brother, Ray Steenwyk; along with other family members and dear friends.

She leaves behind her daughters Pam (Steve) Hondorp, Sheryl (Brian) DeWeerd, Jodi (Stephen) Salisbury; 12 loving grandchildren; nine precious great-grandchildren; brother, Ben Steenwyk; along with many nephews, nieces, and friends.

Our mom joyfully celebrated her 90th birthday this past June 16 with family and friends and rejoiced along with her church family as a charter member of Heritage CRC at the 50th anniversary in September. Faith, family, and friends were her reasons for living. She was a mother, grandma, and GG who graciously passed along her love of Jesus to us all through the way she lived her life. Her church family also helped her in so many ways in the past years and were so very dear to her.

Please join us from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, October 14 at Cook Funeral Home, 2067 - 84th Street in Byron Center for visitation. The funeral service for our mom will be held 11 a.m. Friday, October 15 at Heritage CRC, 3089 - 84th Street SW. Visitation will be held from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, a gift may be made to the youth programs and mission teams at Heritage CRC. The family welcomes memories and messages in their guest book online at www.cookcaresbyron.com.

Jodi: I wish I would have been able to attend the visitation for your mom and give you my condolences in person. Oh, the hours I spent at your house growing up! Your mom was always cheerful and had a smile on her face. The way she cared for your brother left an impression on me as a middle-schooler. There is a special place in my heart for both your mom and dad and I'm so glad they are together again. I hope you're doing well.
May God bless you and your family!

Caroline was my client for many years. Such a sweet and kind soul, She would bring me a piece of pie from the Family restaurant or a cement mixer from Culver’s when she came in and we would sit and chat after she paid her insurance. I will truly miss her sweet visits to the office. I know she is happy now being with your dad again. God bless your entire family at this great loss of your mom. In Christ, Lynnette Gallegos

I remember my mom (Gladys Huizinga) and my Aunt Jean VanDyke were friends with your mom and dad. They always spoke well of them. My deepest sympathy to your family. Sandy Krikke. Stkrikke60@gmail.com

We will miss seeing Caroline sitting in the back row at Heritage and then helping her putting in her hearing aids. We shared many meals and memories together of her dear Henry - she missed him so much. Caroline was happy and positive and we always felt enriched after spending time with her. She loved the meat loaf dinners at Cracker Barrel and the concrete mixers from Culvers. Recently I called to take her out for supper and she didn't feel up to going so instead we picked up her raspberry concrete mixer and she enjoyed every bite. We are so thankful for the times we spent together and praise and thank God for the impact she had on our lives. Caroline was special!!!
