Dan was born on August 4, 1954, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to James and Jeanne Melville. From an early age, he developed the strong work ethic, sense of humor, and servant's heart that would become hallmarks of his life.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Sally Melville and Margie Brooks; and brothers Scott, David, and Rick Melville.
Dan will be lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of 50 years, Beth; children Stephanie Gravedoni, Derek (Katie) Melville, and Amanda (Joe) Medja; brothers Jim and Tim Melville; sister, Kathy Wirtz; and cherished grandchildren Cohen Gravedoni, Macy, Mya, and Brody Melville, and Porter Medja. He also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Dan enjoyed a fulfilling career in the food manufacturing industry, where he built lasting relationships through his many leadership roles. He genuinely valued each person's unique gifts and always sought the best in others. Dan was known for his quick wit and sense of humor, bringing laughter and encouragement to countless people throughout his life.
Faith, family, and friendship were the cornerstones of Dan's life. He faithfully served in a variety of volunteer roles at Kelloggsville Christian Reformed Church and First Reformed Church of Byron Center. Dan was baptized as an adult and publicly professed his faith at Ideal Park Christian Reformed Church, a decision that shaped the way he lived his life—with humility, compassion, and a servant's heart.
Outside of work and church, Dan found joy in the simple things. He loved tackling projects around the house, attending auctions in search of a good find, and spending time on the golf course with friends. Above all, he treasured his family. Whether it was a sporting event, musical or theatrical performance, school event, or any other activity, Dan could almost always be found in the stands cheering on his children, grandchildren, and other family members. His faithful presence and unwavering support became one of the greatest gifts he gave to those he loved.
Dan's life was a reflection of quiet faith, humble service, and unconditional love. He led through his actions, his generosity, and the way he made others feel valued. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished, the friendships he nurtured, the lives he encouraged, and the example of integrity, kindness, and steadfast faith that he leaves for future generations. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who were blessed to know him.
