David graduated from Grand Rapids Christian High School and Calvin College. He worked as a social studies teacher for Hudsonville Public Schools for 35 years. Even in retirement, David never missed an opportunity to teach a quick life lesson to his kids and grandkids. David was an avid pickleball player and sports fan, often found on the sidelines cheering on his kids and grandkids. He will also be remembered for his generous heart, volunteering wherever the need called him.
David was preceded in death by his parents Carlton and Trena (Guikema) Vredevoogd and his stepmother, Jeannette (Blauwkamp) Vredevoogd. He will be remembered by his loving wife, Joy (Bell) Vredevoogd; children Jennifer (Ben) Leskela, Ross (Lisa) Vredevoogd; stepchildren Shawna Hood, Angie (Jason) Lundstrom; grandchildren Ryan, Nate, Alison (Drew), Mya, Kane, Nolan, and Zimber; sister, Cheryl (Bruce) Schreur; and great-aunt, Penny (Vredevoogd) Dykstra.
Visitation will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, October 4, 2025, with funeral service to follow at 12 p.m., both at Cook Funeral Home, 2067 84th St. SW, Byron Center, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Corewell Health Foundation West Michigan - Hospice and Palliative Care, Dégagé Ministries, or Ionia County Library Foundation.
