She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale Andringa and son, Darwin Andringa. She is survived by her children Daryl (Marcia) Andringa, Doug (Vicky) Andringa, and Dawn (Dan) Krieger; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Andringa; grandchildren Stacy (George) Engelsman, Erin (Darrick) Smith, Joshua (Noelle) Andringa, Renae Bucy, Jennifer (Ryan) Crouse, Justin (Elizabeth) Andringa, Casleah (Sean) Herwaldt, Jasmine (Blake) Wisz, Whitney (Kevin) Seaton; great-grandchildren Grady, Mason, River, Jet, Barrett, Zane, Emberly, Steven, Eric, Sara, Persephone, Ben, Amelia, Violet, Isaac, Serenity, Destiny, Charity, Harmony, Jase, Rose, Flora and Shialah. Also surviving are her brother, Gary Schelhaas and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Dorana was born in Corsica, South Dakota and received her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Dakota Wesleyan University. She married Dale Andringa after a ten-day engagement in 1951 prior to Dale’s deployment to Korea. They settled in Wyoming, MI following Dale’s discharge from the Air Force. She worked for Grand Rapids Osteopathic Hospital and later Metro Hospital her entire career.
She and Dale took their family camping and traveled, visiting many national parks in the USA and Canada. Dorana continued to travel after Dale’s passing 1994 and went on many trips with her family and friends, visiting many different countries; she really enjoyed cruises! Crafting, knitting, crocheting, and photography were her favorite hobbies, and she shared that love with her grandchildren. She enjoyed playing cards, all types of games, and especially playing Bingo!
A celebration of life service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, July 31, 2026, at Cook Funeral Home, 2067 84th St. SW, Byron Center, MI 49315, with visitation one hour prior to service. The family will also receive relatives and friends, from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, July 30, 2026, at Cook Funeral Home in Byron Center.
