He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 48 years, Dawn Groen; children Nicole (Brent) Vander Zwaag, Heather (Ben) Smith; grandchildren Jared, Sean, Ryan and Carter Vander Zwaag, and Kyle, Leah and Avery Smith; mother and stepfather Joyce (Herb) Steigenga; mother-in-law and stepfather-in-law Charlotte (Marv) Westmaas; siblings Tom (Sandy) Groen, Linda (Wayne) Vander Molen; siblings-in-law Dee (Fred) Diekman, Jim (Peggy) Wever, Jack (Julie) Wever; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Doug proudly served his country in the United States National Guard. He was an avid fisherman, golfer, and enjoyed his part-time job at Inontime. When he wasn’t working, golfing, or fishing, one of his favorite things to do was to work outside in the yard. Doug was a 34-year member at Heritage Christian Reformed Church. Most importantly, he loved spending time with his family and his family with him. Doug will be greatly missed.
Because of Covid-19 restrictions, a private family service will be held. Doug will be laid to rest at Winchester Cemetery in Byron Center. In memory of Doug and in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Borculo Christian School or Zeeland Christian School. The family welcomes memories and messages in their guest book online at www.cookcaresbyron.com.
