

Born on September 26, 1926 in LaCrosse, Wisconsin to the late Hazel Elvin and Violet Ann DeWitt. Elvin always had music in his heart, whether singing or playing his harmonica. He enjoyed playing the violin in school, church, and improvising in a quintet. He graduated from Logan High School in LaCrosse and joined the Navy during war time. He became a radioman and served on the Aircraft Carrier USS Tarawa, in the Atlantic during WW2 from 1944-1946. He and his beautiful wife of 70 years, Patricia, were married in 1950.
In Three Rivers, MI, He worked at Stanco as a purchasing agent and plant manager, Ward Aero as a plant manager, and Shoppers Guide as sales rep. retiring at 70. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church for 50 years. He served as an elder and choir member. He had the most beautiful tenor voice! They relocated to Grand Rapids, MI and rededicated their lives to the Lord at Resurrection Life Church.
Elvin is preceded in death by his loving wife, Pat. Survived by his children Laura (Dwight) Johnson and Jayne (Rick) Cronin; and grandchildren Matthew, Stephen, Hannah, and Kellie; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral service with military honors will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, January 8, 2026 at Cook Funeral Home, 2067 84th St. SW, Byron Center, MI, with visitation from 12-1 p.m. prior to service.
