Born in 1938, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, he was one of six children of the Rev. Richard and Ella Veldman. After graduating from Grand Rapids Christian High School and serving in the U.S. Army, Ev returned to Michigan, attended Ferris State University, and earned his CPA certification. He enjoyed a rewarding career of more than 30 years at Blodgett Hospital, where he served as Chief Financial Officer.
Ev deeply appreciated the beauty of God’s creation, especially butterflies, roses, waterfalls, and the mountains of the Canadian Rockies. He loved the Lord and faithfully served his church. He adored Joanne (De Jong), his wife of 61 years, whose love and care sustained him.
Ev’s character and commitment will be remembered by those he leaves behind: his wife, Joanne Veldman; children and grandchildren, Rick and Kristi Veldman (Amanda, Abby, Aaron, and Andrew), Ray and Heidi Veldman (Margaret and Annie), Kris and Chris Blanker (Julia, Matthew, and Katie), and Melanie Veldman. Ev is also survived by his sister, Laurie Deters; and brothers Dan and Rick Veldman.
Relatives and friends may visit with the family from 5-7 p.m. Friday, October 9, 2026 at the Raybrook Manor Chapel (2121 Raybrook St. SE, Grand Rapids).
