Gordon Lee Goorhouse, age 84 of Morley, went to be with his Lord and Savior Thursday, April 8, 2021. Gordon was born on January 7, 1937. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Gloria (Hamm) Goorhouse; daughter, Jody Lynn; parents John and Cornelius Goorhouse; parents-in-law Robert and Rita Hamm; along with his brothers Howard and Marvin Goorhouse.
Gordy will be lovingly remembered by his companion of 10 years, Sharon Diamond; and children Gary Goorhouse, Brian (Nancy) Goorhouse, and Jill (Tim) Wright; grandchildren Christopher (Shannon) Molag, Matthew Molag, Alyssa (Dan) Riley, Kyle Goorhouse, and Mitchell Goorhouse; and great-grandchildren Tristen and Lilly. He is also survived by his sisters- and brothers-in-law Mary Jane Goorhouse, Jeneane Goorhouse, William and Wanda Heindrichs, Richard and Judy Weick, Robert and Joyce Hamm, and Eugene and Kathy VanPutten.
Gordy grew up in Byron Center and lived there most of his life. He graduated from Byron Center High School where he was known as an extraordinary athlete. Although his passion was baseball, he also lettered four years in football and basketball. He was inducted into the Byron Center Hall of Fame along with his brother, Marvin. He played shortstop for Sullivans in his early 20’s and continued to play fastpitch softball for Steelcase and Neals Auto Truck Parts for many years.
Gordy worked at Steelcase for 36 years and enjoyed playing golf and bowling with his work buddies. Prior to retirement, he built a home on the Little Muskegon River in Morley. This was a place where he enjoyed making memories with family and friends.
Gordy was an avid hunter and fisherman. He had a trout pond where he would spend time feeding his fish. He also enjoyed watching the deer and wildlife around the property.
Gordy was a truly amazing man and will be missed by everyone who came to know him.
Visitation will be held from 1-4 p.m. on Monday, April 12, 2021 at Kubiak-Cook Funeral Home, 4330 18th Street, Dorr, MI 49323. A private family service will follow visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wheat Lake Cancer Center or Spectrum Health Hospice.
