Harriet Louise Spaak

Our beloved mother and grandmother, Harriet Louise Spaak, age 96 of Kentwood, Michigan, went home to be with the Lord Jesus on April 3, 2021.

Harriet was born in Grand Rapids, MI on July 2, 1924, the daughter of Dena Kwant. She graduated from Grand Rapids Christian High School in 1942. She married Jack H. Spaak on December 5, 1946. Harriet was active in women’s Bible study at faith CRC, later attending Alger Park CRC. She worked several years at the Russell Stover Chocolate Shop in Eastbrook Mall. She volunteered for the Blodgett Hospital Guild, working in the hospital’s coffee shop for over 30 years. She was an avid bowler on a women’s bowling league, and until COVID-19, enjoyed walks in the mall with her niece, Carol Bostelaar.

Harriet is survived by her children Randall (Patricia) Spaak of Cedar Rapids, IA, Judith (Craig) Sytsma of Byron Center, MI, and Ruth Ann (Mark) Mokma of Hudsonville, MI. Also surviving are grandchildren Rebecca Nelson and Katherine Damisch; Chad, Joel, and Stephanie Sytsma (Baker); Brad, Joshua, and Matt Mokma; as well as 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceeded in death by her husband, Jack H. Spaak, in August of 2020; brother, Arnold Kwant; and sisters Kaye (Al) VanderMolen and Betty (Dave) Renkema.

Visitation will be held from 1-2 p.m. Monday, April 12, 2021 at Cook Funeral Home, 2067 84th St., Byron Center, MI 49315. A private family service will follow. The family welcomes memories and messages in their guest book online at
