James D. Pierce, age 102, passed away on November 14, at his residence in Rose Garden Assisted Living in Grandville. After surviving episodes of illness and injuries, he finally lost the battle against the vicious COVID-19 virus. He was preceded in death by his wife, Juliet, who passed February 26, 2006. Jim is survived by his son, Dr. Wayne (Nancy) Pierce; grandson, Kevin (Lori) Pierce; granddaughter, Kim (Tom) Burrill. Others who will miss their “Gampie” are his great-grandchildren Lindsay, Emily, Amanda, Zach, and Kelly; and his special dear friends Ed and Judy Perrin. Jim was a highway truck driver for 40 years until he retired. He then worked for Perrin Marine Sales in Grandville. Visitation will be held from 12-1 p.m. on Friday, November 20, 2020 at Cook Funeral Home in Byron Center, 2067 84th St., Byron Center, Michigan. A private family funeral will be held with interment following at Grandville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Emmanuel Hospice or Sunset Living Centers. The family wishes to thank the staff at Rose Garden for their wonderful care and love given to Jim in his years as a resident there.
