John F. Wormmeester passed away peacefully Sunday, October 12, 2025, embraced by the love of his family, now resting in the gentle peace of Heaven. He was preceded in death by his parents Jerry and Sadie Wormmeester. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Virginia; she always had homemade baked goods in the kitchen which he loved (especially the cookies); children Sheryl (John) Sprague, Bruce (Julie - who preceded him) Wormmeester, Bob (MaryLynn) Wormmeester, and Mark Wormmeester; brothers Larry (Bonnie) Wormmeester and Jerry (Jackie) Wormmeester. John loved his children, nine grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren dearly.
John worked at Steelcase for 35 years and retired when he was 55 years old. He worked hard at Steelcase, then came home to be a hobby farmer with beef cattle and many other animals that he loved. John lived in Byron Center all of his life, was a strong Christian, and attended Byron Center First Reformed Church since he was a child. Over the years, he was very involved in his church and served in many capacities. He also never hesitated to help others in need with food or visits. He loved gardening, could fix anything, and enjoyed his workshop. He loved to travel, especially camping with their motorhome, and visited many places throughout his life. His favorite place to camp was Mitchell State Park in Cadillac where he loved to fish. He was loved by all and will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, October 17, 2025 at The Well Byron Center, 8425 Byron Center Ave. SW, Byron Center, MI 49315, with visitation from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the service. The family welcomes memories and messages at www.cookcaresbyron.com in John's online guestbook.
