Joshua Shane Tiemeyer, age 45 of Grand Rapids, passed away October 20, 2025. Josh was witty, funny, and full of heart. He cared deeply for his family and had an unwavering love for animals. His compassion extended to his community through his dedicated volunteer work at Pleasant Hearts Pet Food Pantry, where he poured his energy into helping those in need, both people and pets alike.
From the time he could walk, Josh loved sports. He was a lifelong fan of the Michigan Wolverines, Detroit Lions, and Detroit Tigers — always ready to cheer them on, no matter their record.
Josh had a special bond with his Grandpa Timmer, one that really shaped who he was. Their connection ran deep, and it showed in the way Josh treated people, especially the elderly. We’ve always believed that his warmth, patience, and respect for them came straight from the time he spent with his grandpa, learning more from his example than any words could ever teach.
Josh was preceded in death by his father, William Tiemeyer Jr.; grandparents Gerrit Timmer, William Tiemeyer Sr., and Joanne Tiemeyer.
He will be deeply missed by his mother and stepfather, Cindy and Winn Jewett; sisters Ashley (Ben) Spaanstra and Kate (Justin) Buiter; brother, Cody (Alysha) Tiemeyer; and nine nieces and nephews — Nolan, Jonah, and Maelin Spaanstra; Thijs, Anneke, and Ada Buiter; and Cohen, Finley, and Zoe Tiemeyer. Josh also leaves behind his beloved dog, Lili, who was his loyal companion and constant source of joy.
Josh’s kindness, humor, and gentle spirit will be remembered and cherished by all who knew him.
Visitation with family will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday, November 7, 2025 at Cook Funeral Home, 2067 84th St. SW, Byron Center, Michigan 49315. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, November 8, with visitation from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service, at Providence CRC, 7730 Eastern Ave. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49508. In lieu of flowers, and in memory of Josh, memorial contributions may be given to Pleasant Hearts Pet Food Pantry. The family welcomes memories and messages at www.cookcaresbyron.com in their guestbook online.
