STEPHENS, June Eileen, age 90, of Byron Center, MI, went peacefully to heaven on Monday, November 2, 2020. She was born February 6, 1930, in Grand Rapids, Michigan to George Dewey and Pauline (Prester) Storrs. On August 7, 1949, she was united in marriage with Wesley James Stephens, beginning a 52-year adventure.
June, lovingly known as Grandma June, Nana, and Grandma Great, was a great friend to anyone she met, and was very involved with the local senior citizen group for years with her husband. She loved being part of the Byron Center United Methodist Church where she helped with Sunday School. She was an avid reader and always knew what was going on in her community and the world. She loved watching sports, whether it was her kids, grandkids, extended family, a college game, or professional. In doing so, she became Grandma June to many surrogate grandkids.
She is survived by her children Amy (Randy) Miller, Chris (Denise) Stephens, and daughter-in-law, Jane Stephens. She was the proud grandmother of Jonathon Stephens, Jessica Stephens, Kayla Stephens, Megan (Kenneth) Williams, Cobie Miller, and Kimberly Stephens as well as great-grandchildren Jonathon (JJ), Evelyn, and Lillian. She is also survived by brother-in-law, Wayne Currie and sister-in-law, Mary Ann Wernette, as well as many nieces, nephews, and a multitude of friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley Stephens; son, Gregory Stephens; sister, Lois Currie; extended family members; and many dear friends.
The family would like to send a special thank you to the caretakers at Byron Center Manor and Kindred Hospice. They went above and beyond when taking care of our loved one, especially putting their own health in jeopardy for the sake of hers.
The family will honor her with a Memorial Service on Saturday, August 14, 2021 at the Byron Center United Methodist Church, 2490 Prescott St SW, Byron Center, MI 49315. There will be time to visit with family from 10:30-11:15 a.m. with the service at 11:30 a.m. followed by a lunch.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Kindred Hospice, 625 Kenmoor Ave. SE, Suite 115, Grand Rapids, MI 49546. The family welcomes memories and messages in their guest book online at www.cookcaresbyron.com.
