I cared for June at Byron Center Manor & I can’t even put into words of what a sweet lady she was. She cared so much about us. She remembered every little thing.  She was like a grandmother to all of us. After pursuing another job elsewhere, she still crossed my mind every day.  May she rest in heaven. 

       The Kisners were often guests in the Stephens’ home. And we often hosted them at ours. One visit is etched deeply in my memory: the day our sister, Lorri was born, Dan and I spent the day with June (while Wes worked and Greg and Amy were at school). Dad dropped us off to stay with June until he could pick us up later in the day. When Dad arrived late in the day to drive us home to Hopkins, we learned that we had a new baby sister. We were shocked! We so wanted a baby brother! June tried her best to console us with the advantages to having a sister. Finally, Dan and I slumped beneath a tree, leaned against its trunk, and bemoaned our fate.

	Sometime later, June gave birth to Chris, joining our mother in the “caboose club” as Dan was nine years older than Lorri, and Amy several years older than Chris. It was a happy serendipity when Chris served as high school principal at Hopkins High. Dan’s grandson, Jalen was a student at HHS while Chris was in charge there. (Dan and Chris had an inside joke about “incriminating photos of Chris in the nude.”)

	June and our mother remained close after their husbands died, keeping their friendship alive on the telephone and by occasional visits. June made a lovely comment at our Mom’s funeral in September 2009 when she said that “Ted and Twila were a great couple.”

	June was so beloved by so many. The Kisners were honored to love her too.

I treasure in my heart childhood memories of Mrs. Stephens at football games and wrestling matches.  Her kind, compassionate heart made me feel welcomed and loved.  Simplicity, kindness, and warmth were the gifts she so freely gave to all.  One of the many reasons Byron Center is proudly my home.  Prayers and love to the family.

I thought of June often.  She was a great neighbor when we lived at the condos together.  My sympathy to you.  

I worked with June ( Junie B) is what I called her, for 3 years at Byron center manor. She made me so exited to enter work for the day to just ask her how she’s doing. She always remembered things about me that I had even forgot I told her. I remember one year she got me a birthday card and snuck it to me because we weren’t technically aloud to take things from the residents. So a couple months later on her birthday I bought her a sweater and brought her a card with candys. I remember she told me how much she loved the sweater wore it for a couple days to make me feel good and then I never saw her wear it again (I could tell she didn’t actually like it). But that’s what type of person she was, she always found a way to make you feel special and important, i appreciated her so much for those 3 years and how encouraging she was. She will always have a special place in my heart. I’m sorry for your loss to her family and friends she was such a great woman! 

Dear Chris & Denise and family - So sorry for your loss.  I recognized her photo in the paper right away.  She was always a firecracker on the phone and in person.  Thinking of all of you at this time.  Take care!



Stephens Family - 

I am so sorry to hear about Junes passing.  I remember her as a neighbor just down the street from us and a friend from church.   She was such a nice lady who will be greatly missed.

My loving sympathy to all your family.  I met June in 1991 when we joined the Byron Center UMC. I grew to love her.  She was enthusiastic, encouraging and loving. She used God’s gifts to her to their greatest advantage. I never heard her utter an unkind word.  To say she loved her family is an understatement! I have said many times that she and Dorothy McKenny were who I most wanted to be like in my “older age.”   I will continue to strive to be like June.   God’ s blessing on all of you who were so precious to her.

We are so sad to hear the news of June passing, but know that she is celebrating with Jesus, her family, and friends.  We have so many wonderful memories of June!  She was so involved with our kids and so many other families at Byron Center United Methodist Church through worship, programs, VBS, Sunday school, Wednesday nights and more!  She loved her family so much and her church family!  She was so positive and supported all wishing them success.  She was one very special lady who will be missed by so many people!
