Kenneth Robert Somero, born December 1, 1935, went to be with his Lord Saturday, August 7, 2021, at age 85. He was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Mildred (Wells) Somero; and brothers Roger Somero and Doug Somero. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 21 years, Dianne Somero; children Kevin (Lisa) Somero, Tim (Amy) Somero, Lori (Mike) Riebschleger, Kenneth F. (Kristina) Somero, Phil (Lisa) McKiernan, Sue (Mark) Crabtree; 14 grandchildren; siblings Darwin Somero, Marlene Olsen, Ilona Bell, Hank Somero; many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Ken was a lifelong resident of Northern Michigan until recently relocating to the Grand Rapids area. As a young adult, he served in the US Army as part of the 82nd Airborne, with numerous jumps to his credit. After leaving the military, Ken enrolled at Ferris State College, earning his accounting degree and CPA certification. His career in accounting led to ownership of a CPA firm in Traverse City, Michigan for over 40 years. Ken continued his education throughout his career, adding the CFP designation. He maintained his CPA certification through completion of continuing education throughout his life. All of his life, he was an avid hunter and outdoorsman, with November 15 being the highlight of the year. Most of all, Ken loved to be with his family and friends.
Private Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, August 10, 2021 at Cook Funeral Home in Byron Center. Pastor Craig Bickel will be officiating. Interment is at Memorial Gardens in Traverse City. In honor of Ken and in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to National Museum of the United States Army - 1775 Liberty Drive, Fort Belvoir, VA 22060 or Ferris State University School of Business.
