

Larry J. Van Haitsma, age 83, went home to be with Jesus Tuesday, May 13, 2025, while surrounded by his family. Larry was born to Peter and Lois Van Haitsma in Byron Center July 17, 1941. He loved playing fast-pitch softball, and was the pitcher for Corinth Reformed Church’s team and also Apex’s team. He worked in sales by trade, and was very good at what he did – even attempting to make a sale while in the hospital room! Larry cherished his faith in Jesus Christ and strived to live out his life in the image of Him.
Larry will be deeply missed by his wife of 25 years, Cecelia “Sally” Van Haitsma; first wife, Paulette’s children Joie J. (Jody) Van Haitsma, Timi (Tammy) Van Haitsma; second wife, Dorothy Brown; and their children Denise Brown, Jamie Brown, Jeff (Margaret) Brown, Dianne Brown, Lindsay (Roger) Young; Sally’s children Wiebe Tuinstra, Sharon (Keith) Herring, Sandra (Rick) Spaman, Calvin (Karen) Tuinstra; brother, Dennis L. (Faye) Van Haitsma; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, extended family, and friends.
Larry was preceded in death by his first wife, Paulette Estelle (nee Berends) Van Haitsma; parents Peter and Lois Van Haitsma; son, Lawrence J. Van Haitsma; brother, Rev. Ricky Jon (Laurel) Van Haitsma, and infant brother, Rudy Jack Van Haitsma.
A funeral service celebrating Larry’s life will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 27, 2025 at Corinth Reformed Church – 129 100th St. SE, Byron Center, MI 49315, with visitation from 12-12:45 p.m. prior to the service. Larry will be laid to rest at Winchester Cemetery in Byron Center, MI. In memory of Larry and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Buist Community Assistance Center.
