OBITUARY

Lewis "Louie" Stein

June 14, 1956October 9, 2020

Lewis “Louie” Stein, age 64 of Dorr, went peacefully to be with his Lord on Friday, October 9, 2020 surrounded by his loving family including his one-day-old grandson, Wren. He was preceded in death by his parents Lewis and Marie Stein; mother-in-law, Wanda Beyer; sister-in-law, Charlotte Stein; and nieces Denise and Kimberly Kiel.

He will be dearly missed by his high school sweetheart and wife of 46 years, Colleen; their children Andy (Carolyn) Stein, Gina Huff, Kelli (Brandon) Hoffman, Valerie Stein, David (Liz) Stein, Emily (Aaron) Warsen; grandchildren Morgan and Mackenzie Henry, Lauren and Alayna Huff, Maxwell and Oliver Hoffman, and Wren Warsen; siblings Theresa (Keith) Kiel, Robert Stein, Dolores Stein, Melvin (Alice) Stein; and many nieces, nephews, family, friends, and all who knew him.

He took great pride in Modern Roofing Inc., the business he helped build with his brother in 1972. Nothing was more precious to him than his family - especially his grandchildren. Louie was known for his love for fishing, hunting, baseball, and snowmobiling. He really looked forward to the annual Canada fishing trip and the guys “fishing” weekend at the lake, but his favorite trips were the ones taken with his wife, kids, and grandkids. He was the life of every party with a tremendous sense of humor and a penchant for shenanigans and that there.

The Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 am Wednesday, October 14, 2020 at St. Sebastian Catholic Church, 9408 Wilson Ave. SW, Byron Center, MI. The family will receive relatives and friends Tuesday from 4 - 8 p.m. at St. Sebastian Catholic Church. The family welcomes memories and messages in their online guest book at www.cookcaresbyron.com. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Faith Hospice Trillium Woods or St. Mary’s Visitation Educational Foundation.

The family requests that social distancing be maintained at all times. Face coverings will be required while attending visitation and/or Mass. Thank you for your understanding and help in this matter.

Dear Colleen and family,

Bub and I were very saddened by the news of Louie’s passing. He was truly one of my favorite classmates at HHS. As mentioned in previous messages... a talented athlete and all around great guy.
Louie was one of the finest human beings on this planet. I’ve always admired the two of you for getting married right out of high school, raising a large family and making it work. Lifelong sweethearts . What an inspiration! I pray that your memories along with your loving family and friends will give all of you comfort.
God bless you.
With our deepest sympathy,
Brenda and Bub

Kelli, Gina, Mel and the family, my heart goes out to you all .I was deeply saddened to see that Louie had passed. I have been lettering trucks for your company for 30 years and it was always a delight to see Louie at the shop. We would talk about many things over the years. I remember when we both lost our parents and we talked about how hard that was. He had the biggest smile and a hint of mischief in his eyes. He was such a nice man. It was an honor to know him. I will be praying for all of you . My deepest sympathy. LORI ...O'Briens Signs

Louie was the best natural athlete and ball player I was blessed to play with, but so much more. His leadership, kindness, courage and wit has been an inspiration to me since 5th grade.
Then, now and always, a true hero.
God bless the gift that is Louie and his family.

Jess & Tecia Turner

To the Stein family, the Turner's truly love you all and are praying for a supernatural strength as you cherish your most "amazing guy". Mr. Louie meant so much to us! He sincerely displayed a level of love and compassion that our entire family continues to cherish to this very day. We personally believe that God makes no mistakes! Meeting Louie, was God sent! Joining the Modern Roofing/Stein family was and still is a heaven sent gift to the Turner family. As a wife looking in, I could truly see that Mr. Louie, Colleen, the children and even the grandchildren, accepted us in the family with open arms. Mr. Louie left a special quote with us, especially with Jessie! We now end our sentences with saying,.... "And that there" lol. He even left a whole lot more with Jessie too! Smile! :) He dared me (Tecia), to jumping out the boat while on the lake. "Go'head Tesh, you can do it", and I did! I have not been back out since!!! Hahahaha

Mr. Louie literally watched our family develop and even added a helping hand from time to time. Mr. Louie had a way of letting me (Jess) know, he saw me! His very words were, "Jess, I want you to know that I know for sure, that I made no mistake bringing you on board. I want you to know that I personally appreciate all the hard work you do and it is my prayer that you continue many more years with us". To me, these were not words from an ordinary boss, he was extraordinary, a true leader that saw my efforts. I, and my family are truly grateful for having the opportunity to share moments of his great life. He will truly be missed and always cherished in our hearts.

Colleen, as long as God give us breath in our bodies, the Turner family will continue loving, and supporting you/Stein family. We love you dearly & thank you so much for loving your guy, "Louie" - "Chief"
