Martha Baker (Pejakovich) of Byron Center, formerly of Alpena and Battle Creek, age 72, passed away at home Wednesday, November 3, 2021. Martha was born June 16, 1949 in Flint, Michigan to Michael and Marion Pejakovich. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Michael Pejakovich II. She is survived by her husband, Thomas Baker; daughter, Sarah (Charlie) DeVries; son, Ryan Baker; beloved grandchildren Grace and Theodore DeVries; sisters-in-law Patricia Pejakovich and Joan Bell; longtime friends Terry and Cathy Brennan, Bob and Dede Westenbarger, and Karen Gruschke; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Martha was employed by Alpena Public Schools as a teacher's aide at Besser Elementary. She was an avid cross stitcher and baker. She will be remembered as being strong-willed, caring, and artistic.
Visitation will be held from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, November 7, 2021 at Cook Funeral Home in Byron Center, 2067 84th St., Byron Center, Michigan. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, November 8, 2021 at the funeral home, with visitation from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the service.
