Philip Dean Wiltzer

Philip Dean Wiltzer, age 79, went peacefully to be with his Lord on Thursday, July 31, 2025, surrounded by his children, after a long battle with cancer. Philip was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Doris Wiltzer; former wife, Rose Wiltzer; and fiancée, Beth Montana. He will be remembered by his children Michael (Nicole) Wiltzer, April (Gains) Wiltzer-Spohn, Scott (Courtney) Erickson, Jennifer Erickson; grandchildren Bella Wiltzer, Lily Spohn, Cecilia Erickson, and Nils Erickson; brothers Keith (Carol) Wiltzer and Marc Wiltzer; and nieces, nephews, and friends.

Phil was a graduate of Byron Center High School, where he excelled as an athlete. He played football, baseball, and helped take his basketball team to the state championship in 1964. He attended Davenport University and served as the captain of the basketball team. From there, Phil enrolled in the Marine Corps and was honorably discharged with the rank of Corporal.

Phil loved spending time and supporting his grandkids and could be found watching rounds of golf, sitting at swim meets, and cheering at soccer games. He was a fan of the University of Michigan and loved watching football games. He had season tickets with his son Mike for many years. Phil also had quite a green thumb and cared for a vegetable garden, and his home was filled with plants of all varieties. He also enjoyed horseback riding and riding his Harley.

Visitation with friends and relatives will be held from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, August 13, 2025 at Cook Funeral Home - Byron Center Chapel, 2076 84th St. SW, Byron Center, MI 49315. A celebration of Philip’s life will commence at 2 p.m. Thursday, August 14, 2025, with visitation one hour prior to the service, at Cook Funeral Home - Byron Center Chapel. Rev. David Bruininks will be officiating.
