Sandra Kay Gemmen

Sandra Kay Gemmen, age 80, passed away on Friday, September 5, 2025, while surrounded by her family. Sandra enjoyed reading, sewing, and baking. She cherished spending time with her family, especially summers at the lake. She was an avid collector of antique cookie jars and many unique door stops. Sandra loved making a warm and inviting home for her family and all those who entered, and she was famous among her family for her delicious enchilada casserole. She will be so deeply missed.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Robert “Bob” Gemmen; sons Rob (Sue) Gemmen, Rick (Cheri) Gemmen, Russ (Darcy) Gemmen; grandchildren Samantha, Boyd, Cory, Josh, Kyle, Jordyn, Bryson; sister, Ruth Kooiker; and many extended relatives and friends. Sandra was preceded in death by her parents Irv and Faye McDuffee and siblings Karen Losh, Lee McDuffee, and Mary VanZytveld.

Visitation with the family will be held from 4-7 p.m. Friday, September 12, 2025 at Cook Funeral Home (Byron Center Chapel), 2067 84th St. SW, Byron Center, MI 49315. A memorial service celebrating Sandra’s life will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, September 13, 2025 at Cook Funeral Home (Byron Center Chapel), with visitation from 12-12:45 p.m. prior to the service. In memory of Sandra and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Resthaven Care Center or Hospice of Holland.
