Sandra K. Van Laan

Sandra K. “Sandy” Van Laan, age 82, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Friday, August 25, 2023. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Van Laan; parents Frederick and Alice Nanninga; and brothers Larry and Paul Nanninga. She will be remembered by her children Julie (Bob) Spoolstra, Scott (Tammy) Van Laan, Steve (Valerie) Van Laan; grandchildren Nicole (Jeff) Zook, Amanda Spoolstra, Mikayla (Tate) Rozeveld, TJ Van Laan, Shelby Van Laan, Jessie Van Laan, Larissa Van Laan, Taylor Van Laan, Drew Van Laan; five great-grandchildren; and many extended relatives and friends.

A highlight of her life was spending time with and attending the sporting events of her grandchildren. She also served as a “stand-in” grandma or aunt to many relatives. Sandy was known for knitting, walking around Dutton, and hosting family and friends at her pool. She was involved in many volunteer roles including Bible Study Fellowship, Coffee Break, and Little Lambs at Friendship Christian Reformed Church. Sandy served on the Resident Advisory Board at The Village of Heather Hills.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, August 31, 2023, at Friendship Christian Reformed Church, 190 100th St. SE, Byron Center, MI 49315. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, September 1, 2023 at Friendship CRC, with visitation from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will be at Dutton Cemetery. In memory of Sandra and in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Dutton Christian School or Friendship CRC.
