Valerie N. Okhuysen

Valerie N. Okhuysen passed away at her home in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on May 3, 2025. Born in Kaunas, Lithuania, Valerie immigrated to the United States in 1950, settling in Michigan. It was there she met and married Thomas Gerard Okhuysen. She treasured the memories of the time they had together.

Valerie dedicated many years to her work, most recently serving as a receptionist at Holland Home. Her professional journey also included time at Pine Rest and Fulton Manor, where she formed lasting connections and took great pride in her role. She continued working until November of last year, a testament to her commitment and love for what she did. She found joy in the company of friends and family; we are especially grateful for the support of her neighbors, whose kindness enabled her to remain in the comfort of her home.

Valerie is lovingly remembered by her son, Thomas Patrick Okhuysen, and daughter-in-law, Jennifer Okhuysen, of Byron Center; grandchildren Trevor Okhuysen and Rachel Okhuysen of Byron Center; and the extended Okhuysen family who surrounded her with love throughout her life. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Gerard Okhuysen; son, Patrick Michael Okhuysen; parents Maria and Josef; and brother, Fred.

A memorial gathering will be held from 5-7 p.m. Monday, May 12 at Cook Funeral Home in Byron Center, 2067 84th St. SW, Byron Center, MI 49315.
