Victor John Caines Jr.

He was a kind husband, loving dad, and a fun grandpa. All through my dad’s life he kept his faith strong and often referred to his Lord and Savior as “Sweet Jesus." His favorite gospel song was Amazing Grace. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends and many others who knew him. At the end of our talks on the phone, my dad would always end by saying, “Love you and God bless you all." Dad, we are heartbroken, but know you are pain free with Jesus.

My father, Victor John Caines, Jr., was born on May 10, 1942 and grew up in Jessup, PA. He moved to Montrose, PA where he met the love of his life, Dorothy. After serving in the Air Force, he married Dorothy. They moved to Kentwood, Michigan where he worked in the aerospace industry as a machinist at Eaton for over 20 years. During that time, he helped to manufacture a part for the tomahawk missile fins.

When he retired, he took up the hobby of metal detecting and behind our house at the Kentwood Baseball League fields. That is also where my dad discovered his love for golf. He and I spent a lot of time chipping golf balls behind the house and eventually started golfing quite frequently with my mom at the Pines Golf Course. He was asked by the Pines Golf Course owner if he would want a job fixing and maintaining the golf carts, to which he said yes, and he enjoyed it for several years! He was very meticulous in his work and took pride in everything he did.

Family was very important to Dad and all his life revolved around it. His greatest joy and love was when his granddaughter, Sophia, entered the world. Every time he saw her, his face would light up and bring out his heart-warming smile. Many in his condo community will remember my dad riding around with Mom on the golf cart and socializing with the neighbors.

He is preceded in death by his parents Victor John and Ann Caines. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 61 years, Dorothy; son, Victor (Kathy) Caines; and granddaughter, Sophia Caines.

The family will have a private graveside service.
