Born in the summer of 1936 in beautiful Prince Edward Island, Ginny was beloved wife of 59 years to William James “Bill” Campbell. Ginny was also the wonderful mother of Malcolm (Joan Ouellette) and Andrew (Claudia Sanmartin); cherished grandmother of Callum, Tessa (Matt Tersigni), Connor, Samuel, Rebekah, and Joshua; and loving great-grandmother of Gwendolyn and Archer. Ginny was predeceased by her amazing parents, Fred and Anita Matheson of Albion Cross, Prince Edward Island. She is survived by her sister Florence (late Keith Graham), and her nieces Ruth (Dave) and Sarah (late Nigel), and her nephews David (Heather) and Paul (Sandy). Her pride for her family, of all generations, knew no bounds. Ginny was also devoted to her vast array of friends, to young people over the duration of her long career at the University of Guelph, and to her community. Ginny was a lover of things that stimulated the mind, nourished the body, and fed the soul – she was a voracious reader, an astounding cook, a remarkable gardener, a lively conversationalist, and a martini devotée. Ginny was both an incredible listener, who really heard people, and an incredible counsellor, who provided a sympathetic ear and sensitive sage advice in equal measure to countless friends and students. Ginny inspired so many as a working professional woman – someone who excelled at her job and yet never tired in supporting and cheerleading all generations of her family. She had a great sense of humour – laughing at the right times with the right people – and frequently had a mischievous smile that reflected her quick-witted mind. Amongst the things she was most proud of personally, was the scholarship created in her name. There will be a celebration of Ginny’s life at Trinity Anglican Church in Cambridge on Saturday March 12 at 2PM, and a memorial event later this year. In lieu of flowers, and in keeping with her wishes, those wanting to memorialise Ginny can do so by contributing to the Virginia Campbell Scholarship at the University of Guelph (https://alumni.uoguelph.ca/ginny): and/or to her favourite charity: Community Living Cambridge (https://communitylivingcambridge.ca/donate/).
