Aristedes Diskos

Aristedes “Harry” Diskos, husband, father, Dedo, brother, uncle and friend to so many, passed away peacefully, with his family by his side, at Juravinski Hospital in Hamilton on Wednesday, October 16, 2019.

Harry was born in the village of Patele in Macedonia, Greece on March 8, 1933, one of 10 children of Blagje and Donka. A fisherman in his youth, in 1958, he sailed to Halifax on the Queen Frederika before settling in Galt, Ontario.

Harry was known for his kindness, commitment to community and courage to learn new things. Although he came to Canada with only $8 in his pocket, no English and a second grade education, he became the volunteer, driver, translator, and accountant to all. Faith was a big part of his life. He was one of the founding members of St. Mary’s Macedonian Orthodox Church. Harry loved the simple pleasures of picnics, barbeques, celebrations and visits with family and friends. He was the ultimate fisherman and swimmer and his nickname of “Dedo the fish” was well earned. He was also known for his humour and we will miss his quick wit and mischievous grin.

The most important thing in the world to Harry was his family. He provided unconditional love and support to all of us and was the ultimate caregiver, in particular to his mother and wife.

He will be forever cherished by Prouska, his beloved wife of 59 years, son Van (Courtney), daughter Donna (Don), and granddaughters Ainsley and Hadley. He will be deeply missed by his sisters Violetta Dokas and Sophia (Tom) Malatches as well as many nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to Visitation at Coutts Funeral Home, 96 St. Andrews Street, Cambridge on Sunday, October 20, 2019 from 5 pm to 9 pm.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 21, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Mary’s Macedonian Orthodox Church, 50 Augusta St, Cambridge. Interment will follow at Mount View Cemetery in Cambridge.

If desired, memorials to St. Mary’s Macedonian Orthodox Church or the Alzheimer Society would be greatly appreciated.
