Catherine "Kay" Agnes Normore

January 18, 1931July 10, 2019

With her loving family at her side, Catherine Normore (nee Kelly) passed away peacefully on July 10, 2019 at her home in Cambridge.

Catherine was born on Bell Island NF, January 18, 1931. She was one of 13 children born to the late Eugene and Sarah Kelly.

Kay moved to ‘Galt’ in 1963 where she continued to raise her family. She was a very kind, gentle person who loved to have family close and created a special bond with her grandchildren. Her kitchen was always open for a cup of tea or a ‘tin of drink’, fresh bread, and anything else she had. A truly giving person who was not interested in the material things in life. A hard worker, she was an employee at Cambridge Towel and then Allen Bradley where she retired from at the age of 62. Kay was very proud of her Newfoundland heritage but loved living in Cambridge. She was very involved in St. Ambrose parish and until recently attended Mass daily. Her faith was a source of strength and peace in her declining health.

She loved her family with all her heart and leaves behind her children Gary (Grace), Roxanne Rourke (Frank), Dane (Kathy), Cherree Roberts (Gary) and Joseph. Proud Grandmother of Jennifer Appiah (Rocky), Nicola Giralt (Andrew), Shayna Smith (Kevin), Aimee, Heidi (Matt), Erin (Meredith), Scott, Lindsay Roberts and Stacey Kearns (Sean). Great-grandmother to Mackenzie, Ronin, Jack, Audrey, Emerson and Dexter. Kay is survived by siblings Eugene of Cambridge, Virginia Delaney, Agnes Lahey and Ignatius (Dorothy) all of Bell Island, brother-in-law Bill Mclean of St. John’s, many nieces and nephews, especially Junior Hammond of St. John’s.

Predeceased by the father of her children Joe, her sisters Mary, Betty, Julia, Ursula, and Alice and brothers Jack, Jim, and Matthew.

From Kay’s children: We would also like to acknowledge the wonderful visits by her many dear friends and countless prayers said in her honour along with the countless friendships she had throughout her life. She appreciated and loved all of you. There are many incredible people to thank who assisted mom in her journey. For their wonderful support we would also like to acknowledge Dr. Hahn and the oncology dept. at CMH, our amazing RN’s who came to the house, the dedicated PSW’s and other healthcare professionals who treated her so well. As Mom would say –“thank you for your kindness”.

Catherine’s family will receive friends and relatives at the T. Little Funeral Home, 223 Main Street, Cambridge (519-623-1290) on Sunday, July 14th from 2 – 4 p.m. and 7 – 9 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Ambrose Parish Church, 210 South Street, Cambridge on Monday, July 15, 2019 at 11 a.m. Cremation will follow.

As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Cambridge Memorial Hospital would be truly appreciated.

To anyone reading rest assured that my mother-in-law has prayed for you at some point in your life. Her faith was so pure and real....a true inspiration.
Andd if you were REALLY lucky got blessed with St. Ann's oil.... wherever you ailed. Even our car tires got blessed before a long road trip! She was the most amazing mother inlaw....never once did she interfere or cause divide. She willingly shared her secret for a great turkey gravy and stuffing ...but it just never tasted like hers. When she babysat...we would come home to a clean fridge, stove and at one time our garage! She loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren unconditionally....always slipping "ice cream" money in their pockets! You were always assured a good cup of tea at her table...a sweet smile and questions about every soul that you had a mutual relationship with. I can only hope she never stops praying for me and that now these prayers will come straight from Heaven. I will miss you Mom....but you will be forever in my heart♥️

I worked with your Mom at AB in assembly. She was one of the nicest ladies to work with and talk to. She sure did love her kids and we had many talks, and laughs. She was one of the most honest people I have ever met. Rest In Peace Kay, In the arms of Our Lord.

I moved in down the street from Kay about three years ago and would pass her on the way to the mall. The obituary is right, she was such a kind, gentle person. I always loved chatting with her, whether on the street, or on her front porch, or as her strength lessened, in her kitchen. She had such a gentle way of accepting whatever life sent her, which I hope I can live up to.
