David William Aikin

May 23, 1940August 3, 2019

Passed away peacefully at Lanark Heights Long Term Care Home Hospital on August 3, 2019 with his daughter at his side. Beloved Husband of the late of Janice Aikin (2009). Dearly missed by his daughter, Julie and husband George Pisano and his son, Craig and wife Ysabelle Pelletier. David is also survived by his two grandchildren Tessa and Anthony whom he loved and cherished as he watched them grow up. David enjoyed tinkering with many things in his life and was always able to think out of the box to find solutions to problems in creative ways. He loved dogs and after his retirement from the Kitchener Schneider’s Meat Packaging plant in 1998, he could be running errands with his furry co-pilots around Cambridge. Deep, heartfelt gratitude and thanks are given to the exceptional staff on Pine floor at Lanark Heights. They cared for David with compassion, care and dignity over the past 18 months and were a source of peace and comfort for his family. Family and friends are invited to a visitation at Coutts Funeral Home and Cremation Centre located at 96 St. Andrews Street in Cambridge on Thursday, August 15th from 11am-12pm with a Memorial Service in the chapel beginning at 12pm. A reception will be held in the lounge following the service. In memory of David, donations may be made to the Humane Society or the Alzheimer’s Society, in lieu of flowers. Online condolences may be made at www.couttsfuneralhome.com.

So sorry to hear of Dave's passing. Dave was my dad's (Jim McIntosh) best friend for so many years. I spent many childhood days hanging out with Dave and Dad, usually running errands which always included trips to the dump. I remember the night he proposed to Janice at my parent's house; I remember thinking about how much they really loved each other. Then along came Julie and Craig, Dave was so very proud to have you. Julie and Craig, you have an amazing father; he will be missed for sure. May your memories bring you comfort and joy ... Joy (McIntosh)

We lived next door to the Aikins for ten years. When we moved in, we started building a deck.....the lumber arrived, and Dave was over five minutes later with his tools and his very significant know-how. He worked with me daily until completion. We bought a large swing set--Dave took me in his truck to pick it up. We wanted to build a walkway and he took me to his friend's farm to get all the stone. He once drove me to Guelph to pick up our new van. I remember Dave as a gentle and generous guy who loved to help out.

I worked with Dave at J.M. Schneider’s for several years.
Dave was very good at his job and a gentleman in the true sense of the word.
He will be greatly missed.

It was my pleasure to care for David at Lanark Long term care. No matter what he always put a smile on my face, he was always busy with his hands and showed compassion towards others. I had the pleasure of sharing a couple dances with David during music time. He will always hold a special place in my Heart. My condolences to his daughter and family at this time of loss. Tanya P.S.W
