George was born in Galt on January 5, 1942 to Marie and George Ayres. Dear brother to John Ayres, Bonnie McCreadie and Paul Ayres. Survived by son Mark, daughter Janet Jull (husband Rob), son David Hutchison (partner Kelly Johnson-Julien), daughter Donna Hutchison (partner Dale Madill), and daughter Angela Perkull (husband Dwayne). George also has numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Predeceased by both parents, his wife Marilyn (nee Hutchinson), and first born daughter Margaret-Anne.
George grew up to become an employee of Babcox and Wilcox where he drove the overhead crane as well as working other positions for 38 years. George was an avid bowler for many years participating in league competition. In 1990 George became passionately involved with fundraising for KidsAbility through The Cambridge Times Rotary Classic Run. George's daughter Margaret-Ann had received help from KidsAbility due to her being born with cerebral palsy and he was determined to pay it forward so others could help out too. When he was unable to run anymore in 2008 the funds he had raised through gathering sponsors totalled over $150,000.
Our family wishes to express our thanks to the staff of Golden Years for the special care they gave to George all the time he was with them and especially in the last few days.
Visitation will be held at Coutts Funeral Home, 96 St. Andrews Street, Cambridge on Friday, September 2 from 2-4 & 7-9 pm.
