Iain was born in Glasgow, Scotland. The only child of Muriel & David Reid. He spent most of his early years in Scotstoun, just west of Glasgow, close to his grandparents and favourite aunt Macca, who was a great influence in his life.
After finishing school, Iain went to work as an apprentice for John Brown’s Shipbuilding. He served his apprenticeship as a Naval Architect, as they were known in those days. John Brown’s had built many of the most famous ocean liners such as the Queen Elizabeth and The Royal Yacht Britannia, etc. He stayed with the company until 1967 when he decided to do a bit of travelling round the world.
His first destination was Toronto, Canada, to see friends and family who had emigrated and settled here. He liked it so much he decided to stay. After a few weeks he applied and got a job with a manufacturing company in Cambridge. He stayed in Cambridge for several years, marrying in 1969. During the next few years, he decided to go back to school and went to Waterloo University in the evening to do a degree in Business Studies. Looking to apply his new skills he went to work for Cole Business Furniture in Scarborough, starting as senior draughtsman and climbed the ladder, finishing his career as their President. He settled in Mississauga to be closer to work.
During those years he was divorced, then married his present wife, Marlene. He also became stepdad to two girls, Kirsten & Cara, quite a challenge for him.
After retiring he and Marlene moved back to Cambridge where they have lived very happily for nearly twenty years.
Iain has always been a great lover of music, mostly from the 60s for obvious reasons, and has quite a collection of unusual and rare Buddy Holly and The Crickets work, among lots of other artists.
He was a long-standing member of The Scottish Tramway & Transport Society based in Glasgow and liked nothing better than to go to meetings whenever he was visiting Scotland.
He also loved watching the Turner Classic Movie channel, Toronto Maple Leafs, Jeopardy was a nightly must and he also liked watching a lot of the old British series like Poirot etc.
Loved to go out for lunch with old friends and reminisce whenever possible.
Gardening was another favourite pastime, he shared with his wife Marlene, they both loved to potter around and found it both relaxing and enjoyable.
Iain will be greatly missed by family, friends and neighbors.
