This is my favorite picture of Janet and Garry, walking hand in hand on the beach in Alabama, a  vacation place they enjoyed for many years.

My husband Mike Haskins, introduced me to the Robertsons, Garry, Janet and Garry’s brother, Andy, in the summer of 1968.  As Andy and Mike were good friends, we shared many happy memories with that family.  Janet even became our children’s favourite Home EC teacher at Lincoln Ave. school, years later. . .  I so admired Janet’s determination to get her pilot’s licence.  Praying she and Garry, Andy and Mike are enjoying reconnecting on the heavenly plane. 🌹

When I arrived for my first day of teaching at Lincoln Avenue School in early September, 1975, I had just completed my student summer job the day before, on Labour Day.  I had no phone and no car, and my family dropped me off at my new apartment, where I arranged for a taxi for the next morning.  Janet met me upon my arrival at Lincoln, welcoming me with her warm smile and twinkling eyes.  Noticing that I had arrived by taxi, Janet very kindly offered to drive me home after our first day, and pick me up the next day, repeating this generous gesture until I got my first car later in the week.  Janet’s kindness toward this newbie was so appreciated, and I will never forget it.
She was a warm, friendly, and caring soul, and I admired her for it.  Janet inspired us all to pay it forward.  Thank you, Janet!

My heartfelt condolences  to  try he family, friends and fellow students. 
   Mrs Robertson  was not just a teacher she was someone I admired and looked up to. she was like having my mom at school although she was very young when she taught me. Sewing, cooking  and inspiring me to be the best I could be.  Janet as well taught my three younger siblings, my children , my nieces and nephews.  They had so many things in common. I kept in contact with her for over 50 years. Her big bright smile and her kind gentle voice never changed when we ran into each other. 
    During covid I made over 2,000 masks,  headbands and nurses caps. Janet noticed on facebook that I had put out a call for buttons to get the elastic from the masks off the frontline workers ears. Next thing I know she was the first to contact me and delivered them to my house, another special memory of many. May you rest in peace and know you changed countless young lives.

Jan had that wonderful sparkle that made you feel so present in her attention.  She and Garry taught Alan and I to sail and we loved their first boat, Teacher's Pet which became ours.  We had many happy sails on Ullyses and cruised the British Virgin Islands with Garry at the helm.  We were in constant contact over all those years even after I jumped ship to teach for the Waterloo District School Board. I started out subbing in Garry's shop class at Monsignor Doyle.  Janet taught at Lincoln and was a wonderfully kind mentor to Alan's twin sisters who adored her class. 
There was never anything that Janet could not master. Gardening, sewing, quilting, sailing, navigating, flying planes, I could go on.  She is also responsible for Al's liking of homemade jam on fried eggs!  I still use her pancake recipe.
Recently, when I had a question about quilting she was so happy to lend her expertise.
Janet has left both Al and I with a permanent imprint on our hearts.  We are blessed to have shared life with her.

Janet was my dear friend for many years.  I have many fond memories of car shows that we would share with both Janet and Garry.  She was generous, kind hearted and welcoming to everyone.  Our lives were made better for having known her and we will all miss her.

I met Janet way back about 2000, years ago attended WW and often had a wonderful visit!
We enjoyed many a nice visit following that!
I heard many a story, about Inverhuron, her home in Cambridge, their travels and life!
Loved to have chat with her!
Often wondered what became of her and now I know!
RIP Janet you deserve your Eternal Test!

Thank you, Mrs. Robertson for the incredible life skills that you instilled in me. I had no idea about cooking or sewing or any other life skills until I met you and here I am now raising my family using all those skills that you taught me. Thank you so much. I hope your family is so proud of you and the impact that you’ve had and others.

So sorry to hear of your family's loss.  Mrs Robertson taught me how to make my first loaf of bread in grade 7 at Lincoln Avenue school.  I remember being so proud of that and bringing it home for my parents.  Teachers often never know the wonderful life long memories they create in each and everyone of us.  Mrs Robertson was also so kind and patient.....even when she had a class of boys " forced" to take home ec.  Definitely one of my favorite teaches.

Oh I am so saddened she was a wonderful teacher I remember being taught so many life skills in her class half the year would be with her and half with Mr tozer the wood shop teacher I believe that was his name but vet find memories. May she rest in peace

Mrs. Robertson was my Family Consumer Science teacher in middle school from1983-1986. She was such a kind woman. I still remember her telling me, a not very cool or confident girl, that I had the most beautiful brown eyes. Her saying that to me has stayed with me for the last 40 years and is a reminder to me as a teacher of the power of my words.
May the memories of her and the knowledge that she positively effected so many lives be a comfort to her family.

Sincere condolences to the Roberson and Downey Families. I new The Downey Family from growing up in Tiverton. Hilda was our local Historian and Frasier Played the Organ in our Tiverton Masonic Lodge. My Grand Parent ran the Barber Shop, Pool Hall and Confectionary on main St. in Tiverton for 56 years and the Downey family used to come in often.

I will remember her very fondly as my home ec. Teacher with lots of patience and grace. She always felt like “home” when you shared anything with her and growing up in a turbulent home, she was very comforting and although I never shared what was happening at home, just knowing she was someone who cared meant the world. My sincere condolences to her family and friends, I truly believe she made our lives richer just by being a part of it.

My sincerest Condolences  to her family.    Mrs. Robertson was a special teacher for me .... I was an experienced sewer already, so I got to do upgraded projects.   :)   She was so nice  and always a smile for everyone.                                                                                                                                                     Small but funny story .....   One day during class  I started with hiccups and I couldn't get them to stop.    While I was trying to work on the project and not hiccup,  she scared them out of me by saying ... Susan get down to the principals office.      Oooh they stopped pdq.   lol                       Her class was the one I always looked forward too.           RIP        You created some happy memories with me.

I know there will be many sad people you taught at Lincoln Avenue. I know how very special you were to my sister Marie during her years at Lincoln. You always had such a kind smile for me, and always words of encouragement. 
You lived your life with dignity and passed on your talents to many many students. Rest in Peace

Mrs Robertson was my home economics teacher during my 3 yrs at Lincoln Ave. from 73 to 76. She was the most patient and kind home economics teacher and i think i still have our recipe book somewhere! She cared about her students and even took me shopping for fabric once when we were making tshirts! Always smiling and happy she was. She loved her students

I taught with Janet at Lincoln Avenue for twelve years when she was the Family Studies teacher.  She was the most caring and welcoming person you could ever meet.  Janet had my Life Skills students in her classes and always encouraged them to do their best.
I remember her bringing the mongoose to the staff room one day and surprising all the new staff, including myself.  
She will be missed by all who knew her.

When I moved from teaching at the high school in Kincardine to Lincoln Avenue Senior Public in Cambridge, I drove down for a staff meeting at the end of June. I met Janet in the parking lot. She asked me where I had started my day. When I said, "Kincardine" we had an instant connection. I was honoured to work alongside her until her retirement and to continue to see her at our book club gatherings, at car shows in Kincardine and at their place in Inverhuron. I got to spend a couple of July 1st celebrations on Ulysses at Port Dover. Janet and Garry were the dictionary definition of kindness. She inspired me with her gentle manner with the young people that we taught. She could do anything - cook, sew, craft, care for cats, play cards. She was so knowledgable about gardening. When you add pilot and sailor to her list of skills, there was so much to admire. I will miss Janet very much.

Janet was one of my quilting friends. She was a lovely woman . We had a lot of fun together . We quilting for over 20 years together with  4 other friends. I must say she was one of the best and perfect quilters I have had the privilege to know. I will miss her🥰

I was the Special Ed teacher at Lincoln Ave PS for several years in the 1990’s and Janet taught Family Studies down the hall from my room. I will always remember her as a kind, caring person and an excellent teacher. She also had a great sense of humour and a grin on her face that could warm up a room. She will be missed.

Janet taught Family Studies at Lincoln Avenue Senior Public School when I was there .She was a caring positive teacher who was liked by her students as she taught coed classes. The big grade eight boys are eager to attend her classes and worked on the sewing machines and set the table properly so they could eat what they prepared. Janet enjoyed playing bridge in the Staff room And she with garry attended the social events at various staff homes. Where is the Mongoose box?
