Obituary of Joanne Louise Densmore
Joanne Louise Densmore (nee Duffield) of Cambridge, beloved wife of Paul and adored mother of James (Casey) and Bryson (Hayley) and much-loved Nana of Henry, passed away at home on September 22nd surrounded by her family after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer. Joanne was the cherished sister of Carol Bonnett; sister-in-law of Fern (Harold) Faw, Helen (Spencer) McClement, and Herb (Carolanne) Densmore. She was the dearly loved aunt of Hunter (Allie) Bonnett, Logan Bonnett, Rick (Christa) Faw, Kevin (Annie) Faw, Jason (Cathy) McClement, Bobby (Ana) McClement, Josh (Holly) McClement and Luc (Becky) McClement, and many great nieces and nephews. She will be sadly missed by her uncles, John (Marilyn) Morlock and Robert (the late Donna) Morlock and her aunt, Betty Jean (David) Pike, as well as her many cousins. Predeceased by her parents, Jim and Helen Duffield, Joanne grew up in Durham, Ontario, and went to John Diefenbaker Secondary School in Hanover. She graduated from the University of Western Ontario as a teacher. A dedicated teacher, she taught for 34 years, most of which were at Chalmers Street Public School in Cambridge. An accomplished athlete, she excelled at cross county running and figure skating. Joanne was a proud hockey mom and made life-long friends through the Cambridge Hawks. An avid hockey fan, she continued to attend Kitchener Rangers’ games this past winter. Her happy place was the family cottage on Georgian Bay, which was built by her father before she was born. She grew up having fun there with family and friends every summer, then made happy memories with her own sons and grandson at Rocky Retreat. Joanne was a kind, beautiful, vibrant, creative woman, who loved to garden, knit, and travel, but her greatest love was her family. She was so proud of her two sons, and was an amazing Nana to Henry, who brought her such joy especially in the last few months. There are few people as fearless as she was in the face of a devastating diagnosis, but Joanne met every treatment and setback with grace and determination. Family and friends will be received at the T. Little Funeral Home, 223 Main Street, Cambridge Sunday, September 25th from 2:00 to 4:00 pm, and on Tuesday September 27th from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Funeral Service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Wednesday September 28th at 10:00 am with Reverend Keith Hagerman officiating. Interment will follow at Parklawn Cemetery. The family would like to thank the team of PSWs and palliative care nurses for their kind care of Joanne these last few months. Donations in Joanne’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
