Predeceased by his beloved wife of over 55 years, Vera, John was a loving father to Tracey, Abbegail (René), and Shandré (Brian). He was a proud Grandpa to Aaron, Storm (Isa), Luke, David, Hunter, and Colorado, and a cherished great-grandpa to Rylan, Lyrik, Emery, Savannah, and Alden. He is survived by his brother, Alan, and was predeceased by his sister, Maureen Lawrence. John will forever remain in the hearts of his nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Originally from South Africa, John made Canada his home 23 years ago. During his working years, he was employed at a post office in South Africa. He enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, especially gardening, cutting the grass, and going for walks, often choosing to travel long distances on foot. Above all, John treasured the time he spent with his family.
Those who knew John will fondly remember his undeniable love for chocolate. He had a special knack for keeping his favourite treats hidden away in his dresser drawers, ensuring there was always a little something sweet close at hand. This endearing habit was just one of the many things that made John so memorable and loved by those around him.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at Trillium United Church, 450 King Street East, Cambridge on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, at 2:00 p.m., with a reception to follow.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared through Coutts Funeral Home.
