Passed away peacefully, on August 19, 2017 at C.M.H with his family by his side, after a courageous battle with liver disease. John was born in Glasgow, Scotland on November 19, 1956, and moved to Canada as a boy of 10 years old, with his father Jack Good (2009) after the untimely passing of his mother, Agnes (Nancy Watt 1964). John was very proud of his Scottish heritage, but was a true Canadian thru and thru. He grew up mainly in the Brampton area but lived in the KW region for more than 30 years. John had many professions in his life, photography being the one that he loved most. That passion is one that he passed on to his daughter Michelle. He was an ardent movie goer, especially anything that started with the word “Star” and a proud “Whoie!” as he called himself, to you or I, a “Doctor Who” fan. He was a kind and gentle man, who loved garage sales, The Beatles, liver and onions & Dr. Pepper. He loved his family and always did his best to provide & support them anyway he could. As well as his parents, John was predeceased by his step-daughter Tara Westlake (2014), his father and mother-in-law Art (2015) and Edna (2011) Blackmore, and his cousin Sean Butterly (2013).
John is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Karen (formerly Masson), his adoring children; Michelle (Joe) of New Brunswick, Andrew of Kingston, and step-daughter Heather Masson (Sean) of Bewdley, and his doting sisters Christine Kerr (Sam) and Georgine Thompson. He will be also missed by his step-mother Agnes Good, his step- brothers Tom (Karen), John (Yolanda) of Brampton, and Alan (Fran) of Tottenham, his brother-in-law Art and Ron Blackmore & his son-in-law Jake Westlake all of Cambridge. John was blessed with eight beautiful grandchildren; Tanner Anderson, Eden & Hunter Westlake, Logan & Abby Beamish, Mya, and Graham & Lochlan Penhale. John had many nieces and nephews; Kelly, Brian, Tara, Jennifer, Kim, Jeff, Thomas, Mark, Scott, David, Callyse and Evan. He also leaves behind a special cousin Margaret Butterly, and of course his 2 adoring four legged boys; Max & Beans; who still look for him every day.
During John’s illness we encountered many wonderful people who had a special impact on our lives; the nursing staff in Medical Daycare, he called his Angels, the ICU staff prolonged his life so that we could all get a chance to say our goodbyes, Dr. A. Ngyuen & his secretary Chris, who were there for us every day, the 5th floor nursing staff & PSW’s, too many to name you all, but know that we love you all. There was one special person who stole our hearts from the moment we met her, Kasia, you have made such a difference in both of our lives. John’s face would light up at the mention of your name. Your love and respect and gentle care helped to make John’s passing as comfortable as possible. You are my family forever. Thank you to our extended families & friends who have given us their support & love throughout John’s illness, you have given us the strength to push on. I would also like to thank our Pharmacy family at Zehrs Cambridge Centre, who have given us guidance & unconditional love always. He loved you all.
In accordance with John’s wishes we will not be having a funeral. Cremation has taken place. We will be having a private family gathering for a Celebration of Life in a few weeks’ time, where we can share our love and remember the past. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
Lastly, when you think about your final wishes, John and I are asking that you please consider organ donation, so that you can save the life of someone like my sweet man, John.
“This is not goodbye, My Love” ~ Karen.
