

Born July 7th, 1927 in Peterborough, Ontario, to Frank (Pat) and Myrtle Patterson. Marney met the love of his life Joan Phillips and they were married in 1949. In the years that followed Marney and Joan were blessed with four children: Susan, Stephen (Janet), Leslie (Ken - deceased) and Christopher (Pamela). Along came his treasures 12 Grandchildren: Doug, Derek, Stephen, Katrina, Janelle, Stephen, Jaime, Jennifer, Kenny, Rachel, Emra and Benjamin and 18 Great-Grandchildren: Austin, Victoria, Samantha, Theo, Nathan, Hailey, Brooklynn, Colton, Hannah, Kendra, Brodie, Savanna, Abigail, Kennedy, Karleigh, Peyton, Lucas and Wesley. Dad was a loving and devoted Husband, Father and Grandpa who lived his life for his Lord, and his family! He is survived by his sister Peggy Robertson and sister-in-law Gertie Fettes (Alastair), and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his wife Joan, brother Gerald and sisters Eleanor Earnshaw (Charlie) and Margaret Littlewood (David).
Marney, a Wycliffe College graduate was ordained in the Anglican Church in the Diocese of Toronto in 1955 where he served as a parish priest for twelve years. In 1966 he established “Invitation to Live Ministries” a world-wide, itinerant, inter-denominational Evangelistic Ministry. As Founder and Director for 44 years he served his Lord in ministering in hundreds of Churches worldwide including over five hundred Anglican Churches in 33 Countries, in 93 Diocese and on six Continents. Marney preached and taught God’s word to all who would listen. This experience prompted former Primate, Michael Peers, to write, "Few Canadians have been able to reach as widely around the world as Marney Patterson."
In 1988 Wycliffe College conferred an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree on Marney in recognition of his extensive contribution to evangelism through “Marney Patterson Invitation to Live Ministries” and in 2021 Wycliffe College also granted him the “Archdeacon Harry St Clair Hilchey Award for Distinguished Service” and established the “Chair of Evangelism” in his name.
This was our Dad’s “Life” sharing God’s Love to all on Every Continent and Island.
Dad, Grandpa, you were loved beyond measure, you have left us in body but we ALL will carry you in our hearts forever until we meet again as God has promised in scripture John 3:16
To honour Marney's wishes cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held at Campbellford Baptist Church, 166 Grand Road, Campbellford, on Saturday, April 2nd, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. Marney will be laid to rest alongside his wife at a later date at Little Lake Cemetery, Peterborough.
