Beloved husband of Gerritje (nee Jansen) for just 6 days short of 73 years.
Loving father of Ann Bartlett (Gord), Gerry Vincent (Victor), Janet van Domselaar-Frye and son-in-law, Larry (Colleen). Devoted grandfather of David (Cindy), Bradley (Wendy), Kristopher (Tina), Michael, Lindsay (Aaron), Erik (Meg). Great-Grandfather to Tigran & Lucine, Brandon & Payton, Leah & Chloe, and Nate.
Predeceased by daughter, Elly Haigh (Larry), son-in-law, Len Frye and brothers, Bertus (Annie) and Jan (Bets) of Holland. Survived by his sister, Gerrie (Thys) and a special niece, Hillie, of Holland.
Matthys was a very loyal and hard working man. He moved his family from Holland in 1953, and spent his life working as a carpenter. He retired at the age of 64, and spent the rest of his life travelling and spending time with his family.
He was a very loving husband who devoted all of his time to caring for his wife. At 98 and 94, they still lived together in their own apartment, and if you happened upon them, you would often find them sitting beside each other holding hands. His mind was as sharp as a tack, and he loved puzzles and word searches. He had a sly side, and was very playful. He loved spending time outside and seeing his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
