Peter Sydney Ward, age 87, of Cambridge, Ontario passed away on Wednesday June 19, 2019. Peter was born January 7, 1932.

The children and family of Peter Ward, Pat, Bonnie, Wendy and Darcy regrettably announce the passing of their father, grand-father, great grand-father and great great grand-father on June 19th. Peter, in his 88th year, passed after a courageous battle with numerous illnesses which he fought with a determination and a brand of humour unique to him. Peter was predeceased by his loving wife of 66 years, Dolores (April 2016). A life-long resident of (Galt) Cambridge, Peter will be remembered as the jovial man with the handle-bar moustache and the engineer overalls at his antique store, Pete’s Corner and at the barn at Aberfoyle Antique Market. Peter loved his family, his pets, antique cars, his volunteer work and his hockey. He was inducted into the Cambridge Sports Hall of Fame with the Galt Hornets Sr. A Hockey team. Cremation has taken place. A “Celebration of Life” reception will be held at Coutts Funeral Home (96 St. Andrews St. Cambridge) on Tuesday, July 2, 2019 from 4 – 6 pm. The family of Peter would like to express their sincerest thanks to his home PD nurses and Dr. Vitou and her staff at the Grand River Hospital Kidney Dialysis Dept. – all were “Peter’s Angels”. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Kidney Foundation of Canada would be appreciated.

My staff and I our lost for words, I always loved when Pete arrived in my store to purchase Bird feed, and special treat for his Parrot and always a treat for him. Over the years he would tell us many good stories and we enjoyed every one of them. I was very much appreciated when he gave me a piece of my Grandfathers store he had bought (when my grandfather closed his store). We send our Condolence to his family ...You will be missed ...

I was lucky enough to meet Pete about six years ago, he started out as being one of my neighbors that quickly changed to one of my dearest friends. I will always cherish our dog walks together and great conversations full of laughs. I will never forget the twinkle in his eyes when he told his stories. He is the kindest, funniest man I have ever met, and made the best butter tarts I’ve ever tasted. Pete, has touched all of our lives, and will be greatly missed.
My deepest condolences to his family, my thoughts and prayers are with you all. Cherish your memories!

Pete was a cornerstone of the Aberfoyle Antique Market. With his signature handlebar moustache, glowing smile and quick wit, he greeted and engaged with thousands of visitors over his long span as a vendor. He was always supportive and will be missed by his many friends, and those that he met, at the Market. Our condolences to the family.

We have wonderful memories of Pete while living on Blair Road. We enjoyed many conversations together while out for walks and when we popped by with our children, Cece and Tripp. Pete always greeted us with a big smile and laughter was sure to follow. We feel so blessed that Pete was a part of our lives.

I worked with Peteand John at the City Shoe Shine when I was about12-13

I also encountered this amazing man when he bowled in the Galt City 10 Pin league. It is incredible that he could bowl with thumb and baby finger on his right hand

He was always good for a chuckle and he was a true gentleman in every sense of the word

Cambridge will certainly feel this loss as his extensive list of friends and acquaintances is extensive.

He will certainly be missed

Growing up on the westside of Galt, I knew the family...later as an adult hanging with Pete at the Hornets Booster Club, visiting Pete’s Corners , bowling in the same league , buying original window hardware for our Victorian home reno in Drumbo and visiting his stand at Aberfoil on a weekend searching for unique items...Pete always had something to say to make you smile or laugh....he will be missed , RIP Pete from a neighbour and friend from the past....
