

Passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her family, on Sunday, October 27, 2013, at Cambridge Memorial Hospital, in her 91st year. Wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, the heart of our family. Shirley was an excellent “domestic engineer” expertly caring for the needs of her family and home. Loving and devoted wife of Thomas C. Higgins with whom she married 69 years ago this past October 14. Loving and devoted mother of Barbara (Richard) Gardham, Louise (David) Snook, Katherine Higgins, Thomas A. (Michele) Higgins. Loving and precious grandmother of Beth (Gerald) Moore, Paul Gardham, Michelle (Robert) Burns, Andrea (Alex) Fraser, Michael (Holly) Higgins, Matthew (Ashley) Higgins. Loving and special great-grandmother of Jack & Mairin Moore, Cole Gardham, Madison & Nathan Burns, Joshua & Emma Fraser, Aynsleigh Higgins. Survived by sisters and brothers-in-law Doris Higgins, Bill (Evelyn) Higgins, Irene Joyce (Pentti) Taivainen. She was predeceased by her parents Arthur & Florence (Mogg) Garlick, sister Kathlyn (Carl) Rosebrugh, sisters and brothers-in-law Fred (Helen) Higgins, Nora (Joe) Mannion, Ted Higgins, John (Hazel) Higgins, Eva (Livingston) Higgins. She was a long time respected employee of Gore Mutual Insurance Company. With a high work ethic and a fairness for all-forging lifelong friendships along the way. A longtime member of Trinity Anglican Church on Blair Road where she enjoyed many friendships and fellowship within the church. She was a member of Thor-Loy group for many years. Shirley enjoyed many family get togethers, picnics, and holidays, camping throughout Ontario, many trips exploring Canada, Great Britian, Ireland, Europe and later years cruising around the world. One of her favourite pleasures were simple drives in the country within the boundaries of where she was born, raised and lived out her life. Friends will be received at COUTTS FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 96 St. Andrews Street, Cambridge, on Friday, November 1, 2013 from 1:00-4:00p.m. A funeral service will be held at Trinity Anglican Church, 12 Blair Road, Cambridge, on Saturday, November 2, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. Internment in Ayr Cemetery.
