With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Sydney James Harrickey on Sunday, May 11, 2025, at the age of 71. Sydney passed away at Grand River Hospital in Kitchener, surrounded by his loving family.
Beloved husband of Patricia for 48 wonderful years. Cherished father to Jane (Petar) Simac, Neil (Jessica), and David “Skinny.” Proud granddad to Luka and Ryan Simac, Bryce, Jesse, and Isabella “Izzy” Harrickey. Dear brother to Stephen (Joan), Elizabeth Adshade, John (Cindy), Patricia (Gabe) Lee, and Michael (Denise).
Sydney will also be fondly remembered by Paul McGinnigle, as well as by his many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Born in Liverpool, England, Sydney came to Canada in 1981 to build a better life for his family. A proud and dedicated blue-collar worker, he spent his career as a skilled machinist. Sydney had a lifelong passion for soccer, especially his beloved Liverpool FC and found great joy in traveling, cruising, and spending time at his place in Arizona.
Relatives and friends will be received on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. at Coutts Funeral Home, 96 St. Andrew Street, Cambridge. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Coutts Funeral Home. In keeping with his wishes, cremation will follow.
Memorial donations may be made to the Grand River Hospital Foundation or the Canadian Kidney Foundation of Canada in Sydney’s memory.
