Anna Thompson, 65, of New Kingstown, warmed and lives on in the hearts of all who knew her. She passed away at home in the presence of her family on Saturday, August 6th. She will be sorely missed as a loving sister, supportive mother, cherished YiaYia, and dear friend. Preceded in death by her father, Panagiotis Tsakopiakos, her mother, Ekkaterini Zevgoli, and her husband, Thomas E. Thompson, she is survived by her five children and their spouses, Pete Katsouros, Sophia Psillos, Katerina Duckett, Pauline Thompson, and Elizabeth Thompson, her siblings, Dimitrula Nafpliotou and George Tsakopiakos, and her five grandchildren.
Arriving in the USA from Greece in 1969, she balanced between periods of full-time homemaking and her work in bookkeeping, sales, and child care. Anna became a US citizen in 1977; she was very proud of both her Greek heritage and to be an American. Anna was a gifted linguist who would routinely beat her family at Scrabble, as well as an exceptional host, making anyone, anywhere feel welcome, comfortable, and at home. She was a gifted cook and baker, always being involved in preparing the food for her church's Greek Festivals and once having provided the baklava for the Greek Embassy in Washington D.C.
Anna was a woman of strong faith and character and a dedicated member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania where she served as a beloved Greek School teacher from 2007 to 2015 and was an involved member of the St. Katherine's Philoptochos Society (Friend of the Poor) from 2009 to 2015 where she served in roles such as Treasurer and Bookkeeper. For the church's Greek Festival, Anna could be found sharing treasures in YiaYia's attic. Also, Anna was a loved familiar face at Gilligan's Restaurant on Eisenhower Boulevard in Harrisburg, PA.
Anna lived a full life, never wasting a moment. Anna would rarely even sit down, always keeping busy and productive. Anna's motto was "Never put off for tomorrow what you can do today." Through good times and bad, Anna's faith in God never wavered and no matter what trials came her way she always said "Thanks be to God!"
Anna's Viewing will be held at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 1000 Yverdon Drive, Camp Hill, PA 17011, Tuesday, August 9th, from 7pm to 9pm with an additional viewing at 10am the following day. Funeral services will be held at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral at 11am, Wednesday, August 10th, with burial to follow at East Harrisburg Cemetery. There will also be a Makaria, a time to share memories and a meal after laying her to rest. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Katherine's Philoptochos Society, care of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, as per Anna's wishes.
