Born July 30, 1925 in Charleroi, PA to the late John and Anna (Kushnich) Onufer. He is preceded in death by his wife Eileen M. (Eiduke) Onufer, his son Anthony Onufer Jr, and all of his brothers and his sister.
Surviving are his daughter Jeannette King, step-daughters Jennie (Puskarich) Lininger and Patty (Puskarich) Mumma, as well as grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Anthony was a proud American and WWII Navy Veteran. He enlisted in 1942 at the age of 17 after graduating high school. He served on the USS Shreveport LST-1 Marianas operations in the South Pacific.
Returning home in 1946 he worked various jobs at the Pittsburgh Steel Mill, drove a bus, managed shoe companies before becoming Regional Manager of Monumental Properties in Harrisburg, PA overseeing several apartment complexes for the majority of his career.
Anthony was a longtime member of the Elks, Masons, VFW, American Legion, National Home Builders Assoc and the (FMCA) FRVA Penn Coachmen RV Club. He and his wife, Eileen, enjoyed going places together on their boats and then their motorhomes traveling throughout USA. Their favorite spot was Myrtle Beach, SC in their RV.
Anthony was also a skilled woodworker and built a two-story addition onto his home. His tools and his "Shop" were favorite hobbies. He had a thirst for knowledge and tried to keep up-to-date with computers and cell phones. Using his home office computer daily and playing his music on YouTube on his cell phone every night. He loved watching FOXNews, the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Most of all Anthony was devoted to his faith. He was among the earliest members of Christ the Savior Orthodox Church in Harrisburg, which was founded in 1963 - acting as the co-chair of the building committee for the first parish building, serving on the parish council, and singing in the church choir. In later years he was also an active supporter of their sister church of Holy Apostles Orthodox Church of Mechanicsburg, which was founded in 2004.
Funeral services will take place Wednesday September 24, 2025 at 11:00am at Christ the Savior Orthodox Church; 5501 Old Locust Ln, Harrisburg, PA 17109. Burial to follow at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery; Annville, PA 17003 with full military honors.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Christ the Savior Orthodox Church or to Holy Apostles.
