Born July 30, 1939 in Milroy, PA to the late Lester Robert and Huldah (Wagner) Hackett.
He is preceded in death by his step mother, Elizabeth (Betty) Leveque Hackett; brother, John Hackett; and his sister, Carol O’Brien.
Surviving Blain is his loving wife, Nancy (Patton) Hackett; sons, Sherman Robert Hackett and Joseph Ray (Ludmy) Hackett; daughter, Anne Patton (Danny) Kaiser; his brother, Wayne (Bonnie) Hackett and sisters, Susan (Sam) Stout and Patti Vogt; as well as four grandchildren, Jessica and Christopher Hackett and Taylor and Cameron Simmons.
Blain was a Petty Officer in the US Navy where he served from 1957 through 1961. After his military career, his employment included Vector Avionics, NARCO Avionics, FAA and IS-BAO Auditor.
Blain enjoyed his life with his wife, children, family, friends and co-workers. He loved flying, hiking the Appalachian trail, camping, sailing, canoeing the Conodoquinet, golfing with his grandsons, family gatherings with volley ball games. He was a patient chess teacher to his grandkids, ready to help where needed, always involved in projects and fixing things. Blain enjoyed tending his vineyard and sharing his wine. Perhaps heaven needed a man with a toolbelt and called him home.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Sept. 11 at 1 PM with visitation from noon at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2000 Chestnut St, Camp Hill, PA 17011.
The family requests no flowers.
