Born on July 17, 1936, in Steelton to the late Dale and Evelyn (Bollinger) Sheaffer. Charles graduated in 1954 from Steelton High School. He spent his career at UGI corporation, working his way from a technician in 1956 to a supervisor in which capacity he retired in 2001 after 45 years of service. He was well respected by his co-workers and employees, known to always be fair in his leadership and taking great care of his employees.
Charles was an avid sportsman, loving the outdoors. Charles spent many hours camping and fishing on his boat. He was a great fisherman and hunter. As a member of the Penn Harris Gun Club, he was known to have an impressive shot. His favorite place was, and remained always, the Pioneer Hunting Camp, where he, his friends and his son Dave spent much time. He had a "trick" that always got him the deer. He will return there to rest on the mountain and oversee the shenanigans, the trophies and return to his first wife, Judy.
Known as Sonny to some, Duggie to others, his friends were many. As time went on, he became "Pap" and loved spending time with the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Known to steal ice cream occasionally out of their bowls! Pap and Memaw (Barbara) blessed their combined family with many memories on the sea, traveling the Caribbean. We will forever be grateful for that time. Charles was loved by many and respected by all who had the honor of knowing him.
He is preceded in passing by his previous wives, Judith Book (married 1958-1987) and Barbara Kofalt (married 1991-2021); his sister, Beverly Stengel; and grandchildren, Cory and Kelly Kofalt.
Surviving Charles are his children, Bonnie Sakach (Mark) and David Sheaffer (Michele); step-children, Katherine Faber (Doug), Anthony Kofalt and Michael Kofalt; grandchildren, Madison Hurley (Katherine Clem), Taylor Fuller (Samuel), Ben Hurley (Heidi), Allison Newlin (Lance) and Samantha Girard (Brandon); step-grandchildren, Katherine Lipscomb (Dean), Jill Hall, Monica Spangler (Sean) and Kaycee Shank (Jarek); along with 17 great grandchildren and his brother David Sheaffer (Bonnie).
